Argentina's defeat to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final, played on Sunday 19 July at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium, has sparked a wave of protests that continues several days after the final whistle.

The petition accuses Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic of delivering a "controversial and corrupt" performance and calls on the governing body to review the decisions made during the match.

However, the organiser provides no verified evidence to support those allegations beyond videos circulating on social media that she claims show incidents favouring Spain.

FIFA's regulations allow a match to be replayed only in exceptional circumstances, such as a serious breach of the competition rules or a decision by the governing body's competent authorities before a result is officially confirmed.

Separate from the petition, FIFA has opened a disciplinary investigation, though not into the refereeing but into the incidents that occurred after the final whistle. The governing body has appointed a disciplinary and ethics prosecutor to investigate a number of clashes between players from both teams after the match.
